How to

Create a facet page

In this guide, you will learn the steps and best practices for creating a facet page, including how to populate with content, add tags, and enrich it with metadata.
Introduction to

Facet pages

The facet page is a dedicated page type designed for setting up recipe collections quickly and efficiently. It’s created using Arla’s Content Database and is typically used to collect recipes based on themes such as occasion, meal type, or main ingredients.

How to login:

  1. Go to Arla’s Content Database at cdb.arla.com and log in with your credentials.
  2. Select your instance from the list, e.g. arla-uk.

How to

Prepare content

Before setting up the page, we recommend having the following content ready:

  • Primary keyword: Used to target content on the page towards specific search queries.
  • Heading: Displayed as the main header of the facet page.
  • Kicker (optional): Displayed as the tagline above the main header.
  • Preamble: Displayed as the short introduction text beneath the header.
  • Hero image (optional): Displayed as the background image in the header section. If none is provided, fallback logic will display the image from the first recipe.
  • Body text: Displayed with a “read more” button above the recipe grid.
  • Page title and meta description: Used for SEO optimisation and displayed as the search result in search engines.
How to

Create and add tags

Before creating the facet page, ensure you have the relevant tags needed for "criteria tags", which define the recipes displayed on the facet page.

For example:

  • For a facet page with the primary keyword "dinner recipes," the relevant tag would be: dinner.
  • If the primary keyword is more specific, e.g., "quick dinner recipes," the relevant tags would be: quick, dinner.
  • For an even more specific keyword, e.g., "quick dinner recipes for kids," the relevant tags would be: quick, dinner, kids.

How to

Create the facet page

With the content prepared and the tags set up, the next step is to create the facet page in the Content Database.

Go to Content Database

Here’s how to set up the page itself:

Step 1

After logging into cbd.arla.com and selecting your instance, select “Content” from the left-hand menu, navigate to the “Facets” section under “Content Collections”, and click "New" to create a new facet page.

If you are editing an existing facet page, you can use search or filtering to locate it.

Step 2

When creating a new facet page, fill in the mandatory fields for "Heading" and "Slug." The facet page slug should ideally match the heading. For example, a facet page with the heading "Dinner Recipes" should have its slug named "dinner-recipes".

Ensure you also fill in the "Preamble" field with descriptive text for the facet page, and the Kicker text if used.

Step 3

Use the "Body" field to provide additional text for the facet page. This field supports basic text formatting, such as links, bold, italic, bullet lists, and subheadings. The first couple of lines will be visible to users, with the rest of the text hidden behind the fold.

Recommendations:

  • It is recommended to add an H2 heading at the start of the "Body" text.
  • If included, the placeholder "{recipeCountPlaceholder}" can be replaced with the actual number of recipes for the specific facet.

Step 4

Go to "Content Criteria Tags" and use the search functionality to add tags from the Editor Interface. The tags selected will populate the facet page with relevant recipes.

For example:

  • Selecting the tag “dinner” will display recipes with this tag, relevant for a facet page with the primary keyword “dinner recipes”.
  • Selecting the tags “quick” and “dinner” will display recipes with both tags, relevant for a facet page with the primary keyword “quick dinner recipes”.
  • Selecting the tags “quick”, “dinner”, and “kids” will display recipes with all tags, relevant for a facet page with the primary keyword “quick dinner for kids”.

Step 5

Optionally, add a curated hero image in "Primary Image," either uploaded directly or from an external image source.

Step 6

Optionally, add recipes to the "Promoted Content" area to display specific recipes first in the recipe grid on the page.

Step 7

Press “Save and Publish" when done - or “Save” to save with publishing.

How to

Enrich with metadata

After creating and publishing the facet page, only a few steps remain to help the page perform better in search engines. For this, go to editor.arla.com and log in with your Arla credentials.

Go to Editor Interface

To add data used to enhance search performance for a facet page, follow these steps:

Step 1

Choose the "Facet" tab in the ribbon menu, and select a facet page from the table or use the search function to locate a specific page.

Unfold the recipe data by pressing the down arrow and then the "SEO" tab.

Step 2

Fill in the field for "Primary keyword." This will allow the facet page’s recipe sorting algorithm to consider search volume.

Additionally, fill in the fields for "Page title" and "Meta description” to optimize the facet page for search.
